The "smart packaging waste collection system" aims to increase the level of recycling through the active participation of citizens and thereby contribute to the preservation of the environment. The idea of smart recycling is based on the use of digital and innovative solutions, as well as motivating citizens to actively get involved and contribute to more efficient management of packaging waste, which greatly affects the environment and quality of life.
The project is based on partnership and cooperation of leading companies and institutions from the private and public sector.
The technology was developed by the domestic start-up company Solagro Smart Recycling, whose software solution enables the collection of precise data on the process of collecting packaging of different materials and its placement for recycling in real time. This process enables more efficient waste management using devices equipped with sensors and a connected mobile application.
The project was started with the installation of smart presses for recycling aluminium cans in Belgrade, at 10 locations within Idea sales facilities. Smart press machines, when recycling, print a unique code that the user enters into the application to enable rewards.
In Zrenjanin, a complex system of smart devices (e-bins, automatic packaging return machines and manual scanners) for the disposal of PET and tetrapak packaging, cans and glass bottles, jointly developed by the German company Reverse Logistics Group (RLG) and Solagro Smart Recycling, is being introduced. This type of waste collection model can be used for the packaging waste management deposit system, which operates in many developed countries. The installation of recycling devices will begin at the end of October 2022 and will represent a unique system for separating recycling waste. Products that can be disposed in recycling devices can be found in Idea and Roda sales facilities and are clearly marked with a sticker on the side of the packaging. Each label contains a unique code that devices recognize during scanning and disposal, which enables product serialization.
Citizens in both cities, in addition to participating in the improvement of the ecological environment, will be able to, by collecting points when disposing of packaging, enjoy rewards provided by partners, and above all, discounts when shopping at Idea and Roda sales facilities.
